Traditionally rendering over a timber frame construction build would consist of using stainless sheets of mesh followed by 3 coats of sand & cement.
Due to the movement in a timber frame build cracking problems would be inevitable due to sand & cement being to brittle to handle the movement.
There are now a number of systems for this type of build with a carrier board fixed directly to vertically fixed battens followed by a flexible render system.
The use of a approved Render carrier board is essential along with the versatile basecoat, Primer and a choice of render finishes. The boards are fixed back to the frame of the structure in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions before the joints are filled with a acrylic mastic to prevent excessive stress movement. The basecoat is then applied directly to the board to a 5mm thickness with a layer of reinforcing mesh trowelled into the whole surface area and then allowed to dry before applying the primer.
A wide range of finishes can then be used with the render onto board system.
Standard texture coats range from 1-3mm with many colour choices to choose from
